Here comes Blasphemy! They were plenty of fukken years that we awaited this moment and, finally, these Canadian legends called Blasphemy played for the first time ever in Rome (and also in Italy) on 5th December 2019 at the Traffic Live Club! Ok, the price for the concert was really absurd because it was of 35 shitty euros, and I know many people who denied to be present that night just for that price. In addition, the concert was organized on Thursday, surely a "wrong" day, and also because of this "little" detail that there were less attendants than expected through the FB event. But fuck all these considerations because Blasphemy are a pure kult for me and, I repeat, it was their first time ever in Rome, so the occasion was truly unmissable in every fukken sense, also since who knows when they'll come back here in Italy?
Now, I lost unfortunately the first supporting act: Barbarian Swords from Barcelona, Spain. Strong of 3 full-lenght albums since their foundation in 2009, they were the fishes out of water of the night because they plays black/doom metal, and I've to say I never heard them before the ufficialization of this gig, but I can say the same thing about Necromorbid.
Italians coming from the beautiful Florence, Necromorbid have only the debut album "El día de la bestia" (Caligari Records, 2016) into their discography. Thanks to them, the night started to be finally in the right mood since they plays a very orthodox form of bestial black/death metal, and it's so orthodox that they wears the classic war metal glasses! Plus, among their original songs, they played even a destructive version of "Desecration of the Holy Kingdom" of Black Witchery. And it's incredible how Dysangelium, the singer/guitarist of Necromorbid, is able to sing as Impurath! Anyway, Necromorbid deserves a lot, and it isn't a case if they played with Blasphemy also the day after in Milan while some days before they supported a great Italian war metal act named Blasphemous Noise Torment.
And now it's the turn of the black metal skinheads par excellence: Blasphemy! It was immensely fantastic to see them on stage, also because they are now a real all-star band since they have into the line-up well praised extreme metal maniacs such as Ryan Förster of Conqueror's fame, V. Kusabs of Temple Nightside, and Nocturnal Hellfucker of Ascended Dead/Weregoat, and you know I like a lot all these bands! So, needless to say, Blasphemy, strong of their historic members Nocturnal Grave Desecrator and Black Winds (also in Blasphamagoatachrist and, as an illustrious guest member, in Death Worship) and Caller of the Storms, totally destroyed the stage, provoking even, not surprisingly, a very good moshpit already from the beginning of their concert. Throughout it, they spewed forth songs taken from all their seminal releases, even the self-celebrative "Blasphemy" from the "Blood Upon the Altar" demo, and without forgetting that they played also "Victory (Son of the Damned)", a very old track that was finally released only in 2018. But, at a certain point, Blasphemy left the stage, so the attendants (included me, obviously!) started to ask them to come back... and they did! They did it by playing something like other 5 songs, terminating their concert with the infamous "Ritual"... and you can't imagine our huge enthusiasm when "Ritual" was played just at the end!
All in all, this has been a real, unforgettable gig, and I admit I would like a lot to see again Blasphemy because they are amazing also on stage, so I am wondering when I'll have another chance to see them in action. Anyway, it was unforgettable also in a physical way since I still have a scratch on the neck because of the moshpit haha! Another thing to remember: after the concert, none other than Caller of the Storms greeted a friend of mine and me with a caveman "hello guys!" said in a perfect Italian! Fuck, these are really fantastic memories! But, mind you, 35 euros are too ridiculously fukken much!
