Hey brutal bangers,
I wrote no articles even since
17th April, so it's time to do a big episode of "
Honorable Mentions from the Abyss"! Hence, I'll present you today
8 very interesting bands ranging from the
anarchist and anti-fascist black metal to
metalcore, so I covered many extreme metal genres in this episode.
But now you have a lot to read, so don't waste other time and let's start with the bands!
TRESPASSER - "Чому не вийшло?"
There is a short journey into the meanders of
RABM in this episode because, firstly, I want to talk you about
Trespasser (
FB page), a
Swedish duo that released their debut album "
Чому не вийшло?" ("
Why didn't it happen?" in Russian, if I understood well) in
2018 through
Iron Front Records and then re-released through
Heavenly Vault while I received it from the Italian agency
Anubi Press. In brief, they are the RABM version of
Marduk, so they play essentially a
brutal black metal but with some epic and melodic parts and
anarchist lyrics also focused on the revolutionary parable of
Nestor Makhno. An unusual combination that Trespasser, big supporters of the
Rojava fighters that I included in "
Come on, burn my ears! #6", love to dub as "
Blast Beat Raw Punk"!
GAYLORD - "WINGS OF THE JOYFUL"
Another
RABM featured here is
Gaylord (
BandCamp page), whose second album was sent to me by Imperative PR. Behind this strange moniker there is a
British guy appropriately named
Lord Gaylord, very active with 666 different musical projects. Well, he released
this year a second album under the moniker of Gaylord entitled "
Wings of the Joyful" (
Blackened Death Rec, 2020), with the
renowned aim to destroy not only
some black metal clichèes but also the
stupid NSBM. The musical result is a
black metal a bit close to the
Burzum style but also a bit awkward because, for example, of the use of a
drum-machine... and you know how much
I HATE the drum-machine! Anyway, do you know that Gaylord released in 2019 even a single where there is a cover of "
Relax" by nothing else than
Frankie Goes to Hollywood? GULP!
SCREAM3DAYS - "KOLERA 666"
Born as
Paulzeder in
2005 with which they released an album in
2009,
Scream3Days (
FB page), that I included in "
Come on, burn my ears! #2", are 5 Italian guys whose second (or first?) album was published by
Punishment 18 Rec in
2017. With the 9 tracks composing "
Kolera 666", it seem to come back in the '90s because Scream3Days play a powerful
melodic death metal in the
'90s Swedish way, so they remind me a lot of bands such as
Darkane,
Soilwork,
Dimension Zero and, of course,
At the Gates. Now, their management told me that they were working on
their third (or second?) album, so I expect
good news from them!
VENDETTA FUCKING METAL - "INOCENCIA PERDIDA"
Featured in "
Come on, burn my ears! #6",
Vendetta Fucking Metal (
FB page) are a quartet from
Murcia,
Spain, whose second self-released album "
Inocencia Perdida" (2015) is currently distributed by
Xtreem Music.
Metalcore is their sound and they play it with
variety and great skills, ranging from very melodic passages with clean vocals to killing
death metal influences, like in "
No hay piedad (Asesinado por machete)", where there is as a guest none other than
Dave Rotten (singer of
Avulsed and owner of the same Xtreem Music). Plus, as bonus track you can find "
100%", a
Madball cover. A lot active in the live front (they played even in
Cuba!), they are now working on a
new album, in spite of this
stupid Coronavirus!
HANORMALE - "REBORN IN BUTTERFLY"
A
very totalizing sonic experiment, "
Reborn in Butterfly" (
Dusktone,
2018) is the third album of
Hanormale (
FB page) ("Habnormal" in a distorted Italian), a sort of musical collective guided by
Arcanus Incubus. For this album, he was helped by a
gigantic plethora of guests and some of them contributed with unusual instruments for every black metal album like
saxophone,
didgeridoo and others. So, we are talking about 12 songs for 71 minutes in which there is an
avantgarde black metal where there is
anything and everything. It's useless to describe more specifically this album because it is a real experience into
absurd musical territories, so I suggest you to discover it
surprise after surprise!
NORDJEVEL - "NECROGENESIS"
From
Norway with Satanic love come these
Nordjevel (
FB page) whose second album "
Necrogenesis" was edited by
Osmose Productions. Consisting of ex-members from bands of the calibre like
Dark Funeral,
Ragnarok and even
Morbid Angel and with the particularity that every band name member starts curiously with the letter "d", Nordjevel play a
black metal at a furious speed and brutality with the addition of sulphurous lyrics stinking of
fiery damnation. Plus, I had the honour to see them
live in
2019 when they came here in
Rome to support the legendary death metallers
Possessed. It was a
fuckin' fantastic massacre!
ARCHITECTURAL GENOCIDE - "CORDYCEPTIC ANTHROPOMORPH"
Released only in this
March, "
Cordyceptic Anthropomorph" (
Comatose Music) is the debut album, that I received from the British agency
Imperative PR, of the Houston-based band
Architectural Genocide (
FB page). From their moniker and also from the album title, it's easy to argue that they play
brutal death metal. And the reality is
JUST THIS! Ok, sometimes they love to offer
slamming moments but, fortunately, these ones are few because this band prefer to be
fast and demented. But did you see the video that Architectural Genocide made for "
Gorge on Deceased", that I included in "
Come on, burn my ears! #6"? Fuck, these 4 serial killers are
ADORABLE!
SOUL DRAGGER - "SOUL DRAGGER"
Some time ago
Anubi Press sent me also the first album of
Soul Dragger (
FB page), 4 metalheads coming from my city,
Rome Caput Mundi. Throughout the 11 tracks of their album (
Time to Kill Rec, 2019), that was promoted with the video of "
Rise" (featured in "
Come on, burn my ears! #4"), Soul Dragger combine
melodic death metal,
thrash metal,
heavy metal and
metalcore in a mix where modern and classic are
united. Not the usual stuff I love to listen to but if you like similar sonorities à la
As I Lay Dying/
Trivium, I think that they are
very good for you!
