Top Sekret - "Piggy Op" (Defense Records/Maximed Records, 2018)

Band: Top Sekret
Title: Piggy Op
Genre: Grindcore
Time: 20.12 min
Release Date: May 2018
Rating: 64/100

Graphically speaking, the third album called "Piggy Op" by Top Sekret is pure madness! Apart the fact to title an album in this way, its simple 4-page booklet (made by Lucka) without lyrics contains some very strange drawings (on an absurd white background) that are very rare to see on a release of this kind (as you can see below in the band pic)! Less rare is the noise played by these 3 masked lunatics from Czech Republic.

Released by Defense Records along with Maximed Records, "Piggy Op" show a raw grindcore through 14 songs characterized by a good interaction between (ultra)-fast tempos and slower ones, a vocal department alternated between goregrind piglike vocals and inhuman screams by the gasmasked singer/guitarist Koza, and, within all this, there are some hardcore punk influences and also slamming brutal death moments. In general, Top Sekret don't plays in a so violent way and, in addition, they don't spew forth particular touches of genius nor great surprises, so their approach is predictable enough. But a special (and funny!) feature of Top Sekret comes surely from the tendency by the drummer Kuba to use the bell with the result to create some curious drum patterns, also during the blast-beats (like in "Mistr Hoven").

Now, there is need to say that the album has been structured in a somehow special way. In fact, the first 8 songs (included that ultra-short and hilarious delirium titled as "Opići", that's full of absurd...monkey and duck vocals!) are new. Instead, the following 4 ones are the "best songs of" the second album "Komatum" (2014), that shows a better production and very good numbers as the hardcore punkish "Dildo" and  "Ześrane Monterky" (which, incredibly, has some moderately slow tempos). Finally, the last 2 songs are taken from the first album "(Po)Hlavní orgán" (2010), that is mentionable for the closing "Vymrdej si prdel hovnem", that opens and ends through a melodic guitar.
The problem of this structure is that it seem to me that Top Sekret added all these songs to "Piggy Op" because, without them, it was too short but, at this point, the new songs are too few. Additionally, my sensation is that this album seem to be a compilation, not a real album, and this is a shame. As last consideration, I tend to prefer the old songs like "Dildo" and "Ześrane Monterky" in comparison with the new ones (whose my favorite is "Mistr Hoven").

So, this is a simple slab of entertaining grindcore, no more and no less. If you want to see on stage these 3 madmen, you have to know that they will shit on some asses in the Fuck the Commerce XIII, opening for bands like Vomitory, Gut, Spasm and Birdflesh, so don't waste your time and buy a ticket for this announced annihilation of the ears! Said all this, I would like to receive more grindcore releases since, on these pages, you can find few reviews (like about Nekro Drunkz or Agathocles) about this genre but, for the next days to come, it's in progress a review about another grindcore band from Czech Republic, so STAY TUNED...and STAY FUKKEN GRIND!!!

P.S.: thanks to the usual Mythrone Promotion to sending me also the physical CD version of this album!
