Rose's quarantine playlist: let the music scream for you! #2

Hola, amigos! As the weekend approaches, I’ve come up with a brand new playlist!
This time, I’m focusing on the Italian punk hardcore scene; in fact, since the ‘80s, it is undeniable that Italy has delighted its punk audience with absolutely brilliant hardcore punk bands!
And, since we’re stuck at home (I know, there’s no need to underline it, but I’m a bit of a sadist :D), we can use our precious time to explore these bands and noisy sounds!

Rose's quarantine playlist: let the music scream for you! #1

Let's face it: we're  going through a very tough moment of our lives. At present, our freedom is jeopardised, and this pandemic is damaging the entire world.
It's hard to stay positive (I'm quoting a band :P) but we can make it! How? I know it's hard, some of you are losing their hope... but (there is always a BUT in this imperfect world!) there are many ways to cope with this unpleasant scenario... and the first thing that comes to my mind is... MUSIC!
Ok, we can't go to a concert, see the bands playing, do the "pogo dance"! But we can definitely use our imagination and pretend to be part of a music event. So, let's use our lazy brains! :D

INTERVIEW TO AGRIPUNK! (WITH ANDREA)

“Animal liberation front, supporto ai movimenti di liberazione!” Movimenti - Intothebaobab

The idea of this interview was originally intended to give voice to an important Italian organisation that takes care of the animals’ rights and tries to give them support and dignity they deserve. It is important to underline they have the courage to operate in a backward country (let’s face it!), that do not care enough about animals’ living conditions.

I do really support their ideas and initiative and I also think that they give us hope for a prosperous future in which animals can have the dignity they deserve. Even though their contribution is a tiny beacon of hope in this doomsday scenario, we must take into account the fact that changes start with small step, and if we relate their work to the merciless environment in which they’re operating, we all agree that Agripunk is already a giant step forward!

During “Questa è Roma mica” fest, they were there, and the filthy punkmetaloihcsxe audience had the chance to taste their sophisticated and delicious cuisine!

I know one of their members since I was 15, so when Flavio told me that he’d make a report of the festival, I jumped at the opportunity to interview him in order to hear all the story from scratch!

“What happened to the music and the message that I love?” H20 – What happened

Can 10 minutes shake up the entire hardcore punk scene? Sure they can! Cause what matters most is quality not quantity. To be honest I am that kind of person who likes old bands and who’s always questioning new stuff because, as H20’ve said in one song, I got the impression that over time, the true spirit of punk and hardcore got lost. And it’s all related: attitude, thoughts, messages to convey, and most important thing: priorities. That’s right, cause in punk there are a few things which are very important, such as the spirit, the attitude, the way of life. And often happens not to see these fundamental elements anymore in a hardcore band. And above all, it is rare to bring out an original sound!

Necrofili - "Immaculate Preconception" (Self-released, 2019)

Band: Necrofili
Title: Immaculate Preconception
Genre: Death/Thrash Metal
Time: 24.07 min
Release date: 12th April 2019
Vote: 70/100

When firstly Flavio asked me to review a death metal band, I was a bit skeptical, because it is true that I do like metal, even if I’m only recently deepening these genre. But I’m too curious to say no to seize the opportunity to delve into new genres and subgenres. So I’ve accepted the challenge and I tempted fate, like Ulysses’ voyage past the Pillars of Hercules!

Pressure Pact - "Scared Off the Streets" (Wolves of Hades Records, 2019)

Band: Pressure Pact
Title: Scared Off the Streets
Genre: Hardcore Punk with many different influences
Time: 20.23 min
Release date: 6th December 2019
Vote: 80/100

Hey brutalbangers,
this is the new fantastic review of Marta Rose!
This time she had to do with "Scared Off the Streets", the debut album of a very interesting and also intense band from the Netherlands called Pressure Pact. Released by Wolves of Hades Records, a particular Dutch label that ranges from the most brutal black metal forms to post-punk, and sent me by the Italian promotion agency Anubi Press, "Scared Off the Streets" offers many surprises and it isn't a case if Marta enjoyed it a lot! In addition, some of its songs seem to homage bands of the past since one of them is curiously entitled as "Stark Raving Mad", as just one of the first fastcore acts of all times.
But now let's see what she has to say!

THE MARTA'S HC PUNK TOP TEN OF ALL TIMES!

I've started listening to punk music when I was 12. I can literally say that punk has changed my life! What I most like about punk (or what it'd idyllically be eheh) is that there are no judgments and the reality is presented in all its harsh and brutal form. The only things that matter are the values and respect.
Although there are many subgenres, I personally feel bound to hardcore punk. I've always liked every punk subgenre and I do like punk 77, post-punk as well as all the bands that came before the movement and that in a certain way have inspired it, such as the Stooges, the MC5, the Velvet Underground.
But, in my opinion, hardcore punk is different. It's not only a matter of music, even if I really like its rough and fast sound, and its rhythm. In this case the key point is the mindset and attitude. “We got that attitude” said the Bad Brains in their song called “Attitude”. It's a positive mental state of mind that allows you to live and face your daily hassles as well as major problems with a new perspective, far from negativity. Positivity, energy and, of course, good attitude. To me it’s so important that within the punk scene and music there’s this kind of mentality, and I'm so happy when I see all this love, respect and fidelity to what you really are. It can really help you to stay true to yourself. No masks, no pretenses, it doesn’t matter how you look like (just think about a band like Hüsker Dü!). Stay true to yourself. This is a beautiful message. It goes straight to the core of your soul.
I've seen a few documentaries about hardcore punk but there’s no doubt that being able to see a concert and feel the energy is fundamental in order to feel this energy. I'm saying that because that’s what has occurred to me, in particular last July when I had the chance to see H2O live in London. There was magic in the air.
So, when Flavio asked me to write an article on my favorite hardcore punk albums (in no particular order), I was more than happy to "accomplish the task" hahah! BUT, I must admit that it’s really hard for me to make a top 10 since I love so many albums that I need a top 1000 (so that I could include Minor Threat, Fugazi, 7 Seconds, Terror and many other bands)!

So… let`s start… today!

INTERVIEW TO BLATOIDEA!

Flavio: Hey brutalbangers,
this awesome interview is the first one by Marta Rose on these pages! She interviewed a street punk band that I didn't know before she proposed to me this interview. And I have to say she had a very good idea because these Blatoidea are fantastic, so, needless to say, I think I will go into them and into their post-apocalyptic image
à la Mad Max that I love so much. But now let's go live to Marta and her words!

Marta: Parasites, infections, metamorphosis. Here’s Blatoidea’s lens, where they see the reality through. Is it all true or just fantasy? Hard to guess, but one thing is sure, their music and art are a fascinating interpretation of our sick world!
A few months ago, I’ve seen them live in London at the Unicorn in Camden and I’ve been nicely surprised of their gig! It conveyed so much energy and anger. I really enjoyed it and had so much fun that lately I’ve decided to interview them, so that I could get to know their story. Et voilà!
So guys, first of all, I’d like to thank you for accepting his interview!

Hey brutalbangers,
after the intriguing review about "Cvlto" of the Italian post-hardcore band I Maiali, Marta Rose comes back on these pages with a new fantastic article!
Today, in full fukken Christmas eve, you'll have to read her new review about the second album of a very interesting band from a small Italian town called Gabicce Mare. Their name is Hell Brood, that I had the honour to see on stage some months ago during a grindcore/hardcore punk festival at the Bencivenga Occupato squat. So, in this review you'll find some photos of them shot by me during that crazy night. And veeeery probably I'll put Hell Brood in the new and third playlist of Timpani allo Spiedo 'zine named "Come on, burn my ears!", so stay tuned!
Now, let's start to read this review by Marta and...

... AND HAVE A MERRY CHRISTMAS IN THE SIGN OF THE TOTAL BLASPHEMY!!!

I Maiali - "Cvlto" (OverDub Recordings, 2019)

Band: I Maiali
Title: Cvlto
Genre: Post-Hardcore/Noise
Time: 29.08 min
Release Date: 22nd March 2019
Vote: 73/100

Hey brutalbangers,
this is the first review written on this 'zine by Marta Rose, a punk girl and a friend of mine that, one month ago circa, asked me if she could write something for my 'zine. Well, I accepted her proposal without any doubts, so I sent her the first album of I Maiali, a post-hardcore band from Rome whose "Cvlto" was released by OverDub Recordings, a label already known on these pages thanks to my recent reviews about Fankàz and Bioscrape. I think that her first review is very good but let's stop this chitchat and please start to read it. Enjoy!
