E i Raven?

Here I am going only to say that I've lost interest in the 'zine, and I feel I said everything I wanted and more. But I am proud of putting up an adventure lasted even 11 years. Thanks to it, I met many awesome bands but also many fantastic people, and with some of them I established great friendships, also recently. But I think also that Timpani would not have become what it is without the support it received throughout these years.

So, I thank all the collaborators I had, also those that the life divided us for some reasons.

I thank all the bands, the labels, the promotion agencies, the promoters and the managers that sent me their stuff, also giving me some t-shirts or stickers.

Thanks to all the people that participated in this adventure, also by answering to simple interviews.

And thanks to all those that, in a way or another, supported Timpani allo Spiedo, even by doing some donations or, simply, by sharing some articles somewhere.

Now, maybe I'll resume, in the future, the 'zine but, for the moment, the experience ends today and I am convinced of my decision. It's time to do new things, it's time of new projects, it's time of changes.

So, don't feel bad. Also because every ending is always a new beginning.

Thank you for all,

Flavio

P.S.: in the pic there is a lot of stuff that was expressively sent for Timpani allo Spiedo. If I remember well, "Underground 'n' Roll" by Devastator has been the very first promo that, centuries ago, was sent to me. Even today I am used to listen to it with pleasure.
Timpani Allo Spiedohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00541897449082209741noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6750020513338604737.post-54374630176139198622021-08-01T10:54:00.005+02:002021-08-01T11:24:55.836+02:00Come on, burn my ears! #14 (the final playlist)And so, this is the very last episode of "Come on, burn my ears!", the main playlist of Timpani allo Spiedo!

This is a really special episode because, in it, I included the entire story of Timpani allo Spiedo 'zine, from its first number released through email in the far 2008 to this day. So, all the 31 bands featured represent, in a way or another, key pieces in the story of the 'zine.

To give some examples, Subhuman were one of the bands that I included in the first issue (at time, Timpani allo Spiedo was a 'zine that I used to send through email every time I finished an issue, so, at a certain point of its existence, it was called, indeed, an "emailzine") while Clinicamente Morti, Human Dirge, Vessel of Iniquity, Blatoidea and Tristwood are some of the bands that were reviewed and/or interviewed by my collaborators. Instead, Whiskey & Funeral participated in the very first live gig organized under the banner of Timpani allo Spiedo in 2010 (I have still the flyer that I made for it!) while bands like Lilyum, Rejekts, Mud, Adragard and others were used to sent me, throughout the years, their stuff when this was released. Plus, the last live report I published is about ShAnKaTy, that, in addition, is one of those lovely trash (TRASH, not thrash!) acts that everyone needs. And, to don't miss anything, I featured also xSenselessxPositivityx, my ultra-delicate noisegrind one-man band.

Ok, the real farewell in the name of Timpani allo Spiedo will be soon but, meanwhile, enjoy this ultimate playlist. I hope you'll like it.

So, here is the playlist:

1) ShAnKaTy - "Le mani dei nani negli ani dei cani" (live)

2) Rejekts - "Io Senza Me"

3) Mud - "Head Down"

4) Lilyum - "Titanomachy Revived"

5) xSenselessxPositivityx - "Untore" (full demo)

6) Black Faith - "Seduced by the Evil One"

7) Devastator - "No Scout? It is about 4 bands, one Italian and the other 3 from Poland, as usual in these last times. In fact, Timpani allo Spiedo, during these days, became in practice a webzine a lot focused on the Polish metal, and this is very curious.

Anyway, let's go to discover the bands... and see you soon with a surprise!

ESIMERE - "NON RESTA NIENTE"

Here you are Esimere (FB page), a band that I knew through Instagram, thanks to Stefano Marotta, their singer. Esimere is a very young Italian quartet formed from the ashes of Ulteriori, an hardcore punk band active between 2004 and 2015. Well, this new band self-released this year their first production, the debut album "Non resta niente" ("nothing remains"), that was previewed even 2 years ago. Composed of 8 short and intense songs, "Non resta niente" alternates fast assaults like "Tutto ciò che è stato" with other episodes more based on tough mid-tempos à la NYHC such as "Rinasci da zero". In other words, we are in presence of an hardcore punk with some metallic touches (present also in the guitar solos) and with intelligent lyrics about anti-conformism, struggle against the System, ecologism and there are also more existential themes about the rebirth. In brief, support these Esimere, a band that, as you can read through FaceBook, is fighting for "the TOTAL LIBERATION: Animal, Human and of the Earth".

SARMAT - "RS-28"

The moniker of this band promises fire and flames: Sarmat (FB page)is the name of the so-called "WEAPON OF ULTIMATE DESTRUCTION", that is the "Russian super-heavy intercontinental ballistic missile RS-28 Sarmat, also known as SATAN 2". So, Sarmat are true to their name because their self-released debut album, aptly titled "RS-28", is really destructive, spewing forth 8 tracks in which there is a very fast but also dynamic black/death metal full of apocalyptic tunes and strong also of paranoid and schizoid parts that, somehow, remind me even of Meshuggah (like in the final moments of "Evilution"). There is need to say that Sarmat, that is officially a trio, were helped during the recordings by a session drummer named Krzysztof Klingbein, already known on these pages for his militancy in Deathspawn. Released after many demos, "Reverse Engineering", promoted by the video of "Cybermod", is really interesting because it shows 6 tracks of a death metal that is able to combine the most extreme brutality with very progressive elements. So, she asked me to talk about "The Last Convoy", the 9th album by Kat. But it's an album a little very particular because it celebrates the 40th anniversary of the band, so Piotr Luczyk (the only original member remained in Kat) and company thought well to re-record some of their old songs with the addition of 3 covers, in order to tribute some of their masters like Deep Purple ("Highway Star"), Scorpions ("Blackout") and AC/DC ("You Shook Me All Night Long"). And if all this wasn't enough, there is also an illustrious guest on vocals like Tim "Ripper" Owens, that is into "Flying Fire 2020". The result of all these efforts brought to a various album that, released by Pure Steel Records, ranges from speed metal explosions like "Satan's Nights" to heavy metal anthems like the titletrack (there is also a promotional video of it), and there is even a ballad such as "Dark Hole - The Habitat of Gods". To confirm this again, the Gasoline Guns (FB page), a quintet from Ukraine, entitled their second album as "Motor Cult". The sound into this 9-track work is simple to be described: a rocking and straight-to-the point heavy metal that ranges from the speed metal'n'roll of "Under Wicked Sky" (there is also a promotional video made for this song) to the powerful mid-tempo of "Hell Thunder", and there is even "The Road is a Snake", whose first part has the tones of a ballad. The lyrics, shouted by the raucous vocals of Dmytro "Talladega", deal constantly with wheels, highways, heavy metal'n'roll, gunfighters, whiskey, beer, and with everything like a good band of this kind needs. In according to Wikipedia, "erg" is an Arabic word that stands for "dune field" and, in practice, it indicates "a broad, flat area of desert covered with wind-swept sand with little or no vegetative cover". In brief, it's a word perfect for another release of the Sandbreaker, that change in no ways their music in this 4-track EP, so you have to expect again a death/doom metal with desertic tunes. I think that the peak touched in this new work is "Smuglers of the Spice", that has fantastic psychedelic tones and tribal drums focused on the tom-toms. I like a lot the chainsaw guitar tone, that is incredibly majestic. Also if Faeces are described as a brutal death/grindcore band, their sound in this album can be dubbed better, for me, as death metal, simply put. But theirs is a death metal that, beyond being violent as it should be, is also technical, dynamic, creative and strong of lyrics based on existential themes, spewed forth with wickedness by Marcin, a singer able even to throw up piglike vocals. If all this wasn't enough, there are two guests: Elene Aladashvili on some vocals and, above all, Uappa Terror from Terrordome (recently reviewed on these pages) on a guitar solo. More exactly, Ireful (FB page) come from Sicily, and there is need to say that one of their guitarists, M. Thunderbolt, is an old acquaintance of Timpani allo Spiedo because he used to play the drums in Lamiera, a thrash metal band that self-released a promised EP in the far 2010, and then it disappears, unfortunately. Well, also Ireful play thrash metal and always in the good old way, in according to the US masters of the genre, as exemplified by their EP "The Walls of Madness", self-released in March 2021. It consists of a thrash metal à la Exodus/Testament with amazing very aggressive vocals. A bit shame for the booklet, that are composed also of the lyrics but they are on a simple white background, without images of any type. Guys, don't do the same end of Lamiera and keep THRASHING!

DEATHSPAWN - "REVERENDUS"

I don't know why Resurrection changed their name in Deathspawn (FB page) but I imagine because there are so many Resurrection bands out there. In any case, Deathspawn released in 2020 their second album (the first one under the new moniker), "Reverendus". Throughout its 8 tracks, it spews forth a very furious and blasting death metal à la Morbid Angel/Hate Eternal with some slight black metal influences here and there (like in "Grace for Purpose", released as a single) and with awesome guitar solos. Plus, Deathspawn are also a little intellectual band, since, on the booklet, there is a quote taken from Fyodor Dostoevsky's "The Brothers Karamazov". Strong of a clean production, "Reverendus" is another Polish death metal album that deserves attentions from the maniacs of the genre!

INCERTUS - "PREDESTINATION TO DAMNATION"

This Polish trio is a rebus. In fact, Incertus are described by Metal-Archives (and not only there) like a black/death metal band. But, when you are listening to their debut album "Predestination to Damnation", released in 2021, you realize that they play a sort of melodic black metal mainly focused on mid-tempos with death metal growls and with keyboards that gives a little elegance to the music. But that's not all! This because the album, that has a nice cover artwork taken from "Clyties of the Mist" by the British painter Herbert James Draper, is divided into two parts: the first one, consisting of 6 tracks (outro included), sees the style aforementioned. Instead, the second one is composed of two songs, in which Incertus seem to be another band because "The Devil Takes Me Away" is pure black/thrashing madness à la Bathory (it isn't a case if there is a cover of "The Return of Darkness and Evil" into the first part) while the last number, "To Hell with Us", is more death-oriented. In addition, the two parts (I must say that the first part is considered on the booklet like an EP called itself "Predestination to Damnation" while the last two songs represent a double single) have different production levels, since the second one is cleaner (and, for me, better), than the first one. So, the songs are surely good but I think Incertus are a bit confusing about their style.

ISCARIOTA - "LEGENDA"

Long is the story of Iscariota (FB page) since they started their career in 1990 under the name of Blasphemer. Throughout the years, they suffered many line-up changes and also changed drastically the sound, considering that they initially played a melodic death metal. Instead, with their 5th album "Legenda", released in 2020, they show a very good and melodic mixture between heavy and thrash metal with indecipherable (for me) vocals in Polish. The album has a particularity: each song has its own guest, usually on the guitar solos. So, you can find guests like Chris Hofler (Deathyard), Krzysztof Pistelok (Kat & Roman Kostrzewski) and others but also a guest on the vocals like Karolina Andrzejewska (Batalion D'Amour). Now, the booklet of "Legenda", at least for the lyrics, has the same flaw of Ireful's "The Walls of Madness". But this isn't a problem since the big quality of the music by Iscariota.

GNIDA - "R.A.K."

Do you remember that delicate duo called Gnida (FB page), whose I reviewed their debut album "S.Y.F."? Yes or not, Gnida, now a quartet, are back in 2020 with a self-released third album "dedicated to the dead": "R.A.K.", an acronym standing for "Rage Against Keef". Consisting of 15 songs, the style of Gnida is a bit changed since now they play an always destructive death/grind but made more dynamic and also more various because of many influences coming from black metal or crust punk, so, for me, this album is more intense than "S.Y.F.". In addition, there are sanguinary lyrics at times based on real stories, like "Fantomas", that is about the homonymous Polish serial killer active between the '70s and the '80s. Througout its 9 tracks, you will be suffocated by a very heavy, gloomy and tormenting sludge metal with excruciating, hardcore punk-styled screams that I like a lot. Despair, desolation, pain, anger and other "beautiful" things of this kind are provided by Inverted Mind, that has also the fantastic quality to play in a very aggressive way. But, in that same period, in the country there were also death metal bands like Obsecration (FB page). Still rooted in the purest underground since 1990, this trio from Athens released in 2020 their 7th album called "Onward the Mystic Paths of the Dead". Recorded with the help of El (Thou Art Lord, Soulskinner) on the lead guitars, it is a 47-minute work in which there is an old-school death metal with some thrash influences and an amazing alternation between guttural growls and acid screams. Really recommended for the death metal maniacs out there!

KALT VINDUR - "... Fortunately, the second album by Kalt Vindur (FB page), "... and Nothing is Endless", is better than it thanks to clearer ideas. You must expect to listen to a creative black/doom metal full of melancholic but powerful passages, some acoustic parts, fascinating guitar solos but also unexpected and hysterical blasting moments here and there. Anyway, the version of Batushka guided by Bartłomej Krysiuk (that is also the same owner of Witching Hour Prod) released in 2020 the EP "Raskol". We are in presence of 5 tracks devoted to that very particular, ritualistic and doomy black metal with baritone vocals for which Batushka are known since their incredible "Litourgiya". The live was recorded on 13th December 1993 in Krakow, during their "World Incantation Tour". In this album you can find THE Vader, when they were young and totally pissed off, playing a furious death metal that is well listenable because of a very good production. And we mustn't forget that was Doc (R.I.P.) on the drums! Other words are unnecessary because, as I said before: "this is History, nothing less, nothing more". Consisting of 8 tracks, "I Am the Way" is a good slab of black/death metal (more death-oriented than black, to say the truth) in the vein of Behemoth and Hate, with the addition of lyrics totally focused on the Sumerian mythology, that can be perceptible already through strange and sometimes tongue-twisting songtitles like "Irarazakku" or "In the Name of Umāmu". The violence is, at times, very high and there is also, in certain points, a vocal alternation between the singer Levi and the bassplayer Kriss that creates more intensity in the music. All in all, "I Am the Way" isn't a masterpiece but if you like extreme metal with an arcane mood, I think that it's for you, without ifs and buts.

LINED - "SOULCRIFICE"

Another album that I received in 2020, this time by the Spanish label Art Gates Records. A bit tormented is the story of this quintet coming from the Basque Country and named Lined (FB page) since they were founded in 2007 with the moniker of Blasfemia, changing it in the current one during the following year. In 2009 they released their debut album, simply self-entitled, but only in 2020 they managed to create a follow-up. So, here you are their second album "Soulcrifice", anticipated by various singles. It is an 11-track in which there is a melodic death/thrash metal à la At the Gates where very melancholic numbers like "Buried Alive" are alternated with more wicked episodes like "Rotten Society" (a lot thrash-oriented). I think that the guitarwork, very creative, represents the real point of force of Lined. And now, if you would like to listen something to "Soulcrifice", I suggest you to watch the promotional videos made for "Devil" and "Buried Alive".

ADRAGARD - "THROUGH FUNERAL SHADOWS"

After their second album "From the Burning Mist", the Italian black metal band Adragard comes back on these pages with their "Through the Funeral Shadows", also this released by the Polish label Perkun Records. Adragard is a band whose singer bought some months ago my book about the first wave of black metal called "Benvenuti all'Inferno" ("Welcome to Hell") and, if this wasn't enough, he supported it through his radio program Metal Revolution, so I must thank him again. And now, I am here to talk about the aforementioned "Through the Funeral Shadows", that he sent me time ago. Released in 2019, it is another journey into an old-school, dissonant, cold, raw and sometimes doomy black metal in the Norwegian way. I believe that it's better than "From the Burning Mist" because it is more homogeneous and compact but there is need to say that the band has lost none of its disturbing mood, that is exemplified at its best by the last song "L'eterno crepuscolo della morte", a totally sick episode with hateful and terrifying lyrics in Italian against God and the entire life. In practice, this is a perfect way to end this album, and it reminds a lot "Eremo", the same last song, also it in Italian, of "From the Burning Mist". Is all this good for you, black metal maniacs?

P.S.: to say the entire truth, there is also a version in which the album is ended with a cover of "Freezing Moon" by Mayhem, that, instead, is not present in the version in my possession.
Timpani Allo Spiedohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00541897449082209741noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6750020513338604737.post-56303786529534209792021-07-20T18:36:00.001+02:002021-07-20T18:36:31.940+02:00Honorable Mentions from the Abyss #37: Lilyum/My Own Voice/Thecodontion
Hey mega-bestial black hardcore punkmetallers,

today I wake Timpani allo Spiedo from its current slumber by talking about 3 Italian bands. But, lyrically speaking, my favourite song is "Dalle fiamme" ("From the flames") that, sung in Italian like another track ("Falsi liberi"), is about the rebirth, and this is a theme that touch me personally since last year I tattooed just a phoenix on my left arm. Strong of illustrious guests on vocals like Cippa (Punkreas), Black (Rejekts), Guido (First Brawl) and Dome (Face Your Enemy), "Exile Underground" is another good album from a band that, despite the many years, doesn't intend to low its guard.

THECODONTION - "SUPERCONTINENT"

Well, here I must apologize with Thecodontion (FB page) because they sent me their debut album "Supercontinent" with the prayer to publish a review within 26th June 2020, when it was released by the Italian label I, Voidhanger Records but... only now I found some time to talk about it in a mini-review or something similar. And there is need to say that Thecodontion are releasing a split with Vessel of Iniquity, expected to be released on September 2021 always through the aforementioned label. Anyway, "Supercontinent" is an album that changes a bit the sound of Thecodontion that, if before it was a lot strange, now it is stranger. In fact, their unconventional bestial black/death metal that, it is good to remember, is played without guitars but with two basses, is now more experimental, more complex and even progressive in certain points. In addition, this album is a concept about the Earth in its early stages, and the lyrics have an incredible scientific edge, as usual for Thecodontion. In practice, this is very crazy stuff for very crazy people!
Timpani Allo Spiedohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00541897449082209741noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6750020513338604737.post-19376697717018287212021-06-30T11:09:00.000+02:002021-06-30T11:09:01.092+02:00Terrordome - "Straight Outta Smogtown" (Selfmadegod Records, 2021)

Band: Terrordome
Title: Straight Outta Smogtown

Genre: Crossover Thrash Metal

Release date: 5th February 2021

Time: 40.31 min

Vote: 84/100

Reviewer: Flavio Adducci

What can you expect from a band that dubs their music as "Brutal Crossover Thrash"? So, fascinated by this thing and also by the themes faced by the band that are rooted in the Bergamo folklore, Francesco thought well to interview them.

In brief, this is the interview to Fosch. One of their two guitarists, Pagà, answered to the questions.

First of all, let's talk about your band. Who are Fosch? And where are you come from?

Fosch band was born in Bergamo in 2004 from an idea of our first singer, Ivan “Bunom”. He wanted to combine his two great passions: vernacular poetry of Bergamo and black metal. In fact, our first songs were poems written by Ivan with a musical accompaniment. Over time the topics covered by the texts have been varied, going first to address issues related to the rural life lived by our ancestors and, subsequently, recalling some ancient legends and tales spread in our valleys. Currently the Fosch are formed by me, Guido “Pagà” and Daniele “Gott” on guitars, Pierpaolo “Ol Pier” on vocals, Francesco “Ol Ganga” on bass and, fresh back in the ranks of the band, Maurizio “Picinel” on drums.

What strikes most in your work is the research for stories that are rooted in the tradition of Bergamo and its places, rich in very dark stories and creepy legends. I've read something about and I remember something like Caccia Morta [“Dead Hunt” in Italian. – ed. Flavio] or the Legend of Ornica. How your album develops, starting with this folkloric substratum? Do you want to talk about it?

You’re right, the intro to our last album picks up some verses from a 1930 poem about Caccia Morta. The reference to the legends and culture of our province, as mentioned, is the basis of the project Fosch; fortunately Bergamo and its valleys are rich in stories and traditions, some forgotten, so it is a pleasure for us, in our small, to discover them, study them and try to spread them to those who don’t know them. Our pieces develop trying to create an atmosphere suitable to the stories we decide to tell, making sure that the music creates the right "soundtrack" to the facts told in the lyrics.

Also the choice to sing in the dialect of your homeland it's a very captivating choice that strikes the listener. How powerful and magic is language supporting the storytelling?

The choice to sing exclusively in our dialect is a further cornerstone of the Fosch project, immediately welcomed with enthusiasm and shared by all members of the band. In our opinion, in order to be able to sing in a credible manner of legends or traditions of a population it is essential to do so in the language in which the latter were born and spread among the inhabitants; besides the fact that, personally, the vocals in Bergamo dialect creates an aura of unique charm around each piece that we compose.

I remember Vladimir Propp speaking about fable like a journey of initiation in tribal societies. Besides the pure appearance of the concept, is there also a more mature and intimistic path?

The intent of every Fairy Tale is certainly to convey a certain message or teaching that allows the listener to better understand the culture that surrounds him. Many of our texts, therefore, referring to local legends, are rich in teachings, even of moral nature, spread in the traditional culture of our province.

Your way of playing music recalls old school of black metal. Is it can be considered simply a tribute or is it a deeper stylistic choice?

Undoubtedly at the basis of our music there is a lot of old school black metal as it is undoubtedly the genre that best lends itself to music the stories we tell. I personally believe that black metal, at least what I mean black metal, is a style of music very "poetic" even in its violence and that well fits the issues covered by our lyrics. We also try to mix many other genres, from doom to death metal, through folk arpeggios, depending on the atmosphere we want to create, without limits.

“Per chi éla la nòcc” it's a great work, that hold its own with the black metal heralds of northern Europe. But, behind possible affinities, the Italian folklore and his dark side, for me, can have more peculiarities and more appeal. Do you think the same opinion?

Absolutely yes, as I said, although certainly the northern European black metal is an undoubted source of inspiration for us, we always try to give a distinctive and original trait to our music and in this the rich terrain of popular traditions of our province is of great help to us.

Concluding this interview, what we expect from Fosch in the near future? From indiscretions, I know that you are working for a new concept album speaking about an Italian vampire. Can you tell us something more?

Finally we started playing again, we hope to be able to continue doing it with more continuity without further hitches and resume live. Unfortunately "Per chi ela la nòcc" did not have the right live support having been released shortly before the pandemic. As for the future we are still considering whether to continue along the lines of the latest albums collecting fairy tales and legends or explore something new. One idea we came up with was looking for sources and news about a serial killer who lived at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries: after strangling the victim, he removed organs, ate body parts and drank blood. He often attacked them by biting their necks.
We think it’s an interesting idea to change the theme of the next album so as not to be repetitive, we’ll see how things will develop. We’re just getting started.

Starting with my
beloved Progenie Terrestre Pura that experiment new frontiers of sound and ending with Fosch, a
band coming from the foggy lands of northern Italy, that redefines the narrative of this extreme
music genre. In their third work "Per chi èla la nòcc" (Vacula Productions, 2019), they sing in bergamasque dialect, and it is very
important because, by telling their dark tales filled with grim atmosphere and gloomy folky feeling,
like "Al calar del sul", these damned guys create a perfect bloody marriage between local tradition
and black metal. Concept is very important, reinforcing it is essential and create an effective and
original overview in this kind of music not for all and saturated with ideas, so this sounds like a victory!

In this way, it's easy plunging into the world of Fosch, feel the heartbeat of horror, the anguish, the concern and
see materializing the nightmarish creatures of Italic folklore and the legends passed on during cold
winter nights gathered around the fireplace.

Listening to the album, I remember again "Al calar del sul", with very suggestive recited part
accompanied with acoustic guitar, turning then into a chaotic sonic strike. "Crof" keeps the canon of
classic black metal with energic rhythmic changes, same speech for the second track. "Fellonch" is
very solid and goddamn essential using guitars and drums. "Per chi èla nòcc" has an explosive beginning,
it's a violent ritual that hurts the ears of who listen to it and we feel in the middle a doom like sound
that it's a premise to introduce the final crescendo were power feels again. Equally deflagrating is
the next song "Amise ndela eta, sorele ndela mort", that is a pure black metal song: nothing to envy
with northern Europe cousins! "La Procesiu di Morcc" is an hybrid between a dark ballad and a
clash of sonorities with death metal influences. "Fosch" and the ending track "Ròsen" are both
good executions that confirm the style.

Concluding this review: Italian black metal is alive, pulsates
of majestic restlessness and has a well defined morphology that have this album as an important
reference. Making a parallelism with literature: not only Anglo-Saxon authors have written good
ghost stories like LeFanu, Hodgson or Bierce but also a great Italian writer, Luigi Capuana, has
managed to scare us with novels about spectres. This is because macabre, horrorific, black stories,
magic and witchcraft run powerful under the skin of the Boot!

Tracklist:

1 - Al calar del sul

2 - Crof

3 - Fellonch

4 - Per chi èla nòcc

5 - Amise nde ela, sorele ndela mort

6 - La Procesiu di Morcc

7 - Fosch

8 - Ròsen

Line-up:

Ol Pier - vocals

Pagà - guitars

Gòt - guitars

Gangà - bass

Ol Mike - drums

FaceBook: https://www.facebook.com/foschbg

Vacula Productions: http://www.vacula.com.ua/
Timpani Allo Spiedohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00541897449082209741noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6750020513338604737.post-36503083317291606592021-04-07T18:19:00.002+02:002021-04-07T18:19:40.647+02:00INTERVIEW TO INTOLERANT!!!

Hey megabestial nuclear bangers,

after a lot of days without articles of any sort, Timpani allo Spiedo is back with a new interview!

Yes, because time ago I had the idea to propose some questions to Intolerant, a bestial black/death metal duo from Rome whose debut album "Primal Future" was briefly reviewed months ago. How are you? So, how and why was born the project Intolerant? Was it born in full lockdown?

Hi mate! Still alive... for now. Intolerant was born in february 2020 by the will of Antihuman Warmachine and Soul Devourer. We started to record the first guitars and drums sections but after few days we were closed in our house because of the quarantine, at that point we decided to continue all the work from our respective home-studios. Are you intolerant against who/what and why?

"Intolerant" is our attitude towards contemporary society. How was born this collaboration between this label and you?

We proposed the album to Enrico Giannone and he liked it very much since the first moment.

Exactly, what are your influences? Do you think you have something special if compared to similar bands?

We are influenced surely by bands like Blasphemy, Diocletian, Revenge, Archgoat, Black Witchery, Bestial Warlust... we are devoted to Chaos.

So, let’s start with your band’s birth. It’s a certain fact that pandemic has stopped many artistic genres including music. Many musicians surrendered to this dramatic situation, losing their creativity, you instead went against the tide, defining yourselves like a product of Covid-19. Is it an act of rebellion or a proof of iron will?

Well, it’s more a proof of iron will. I [Ricardo, singer/bassist of the band, also in Morbid Death. - Flavio] and Jorge are in the ‘business’ since the 90’s, as musicians but in different bands. One curious thing is that we never got to meet each other, personally. What happened was that I shared some videos of his band Earth Syndicate on my Facebook (FB) profile and he thanked me for that. After that, we started to exchange some messages and in one of them, he asked me if I was into Thrash Metal. I said yes and then he sent me some ideas that he had and I just loved them. Some days later, we already had some songs composed and we posted them on our recent FB profile and all that positive feedback wasn’t expected. With that, we started to take it more seriously but never losing the fun. Then Paulo came along. Besides being a drummer, he’s also a great producer. The truth is that he’s a multifaceted musician and in the beginning we didn’t know that, so it was a very good surprise for us.

Your stylistic choice is really remarkable, that is to revive the sound of old-school thrash metal, frenetic and aggressive with sharp riffs, groovy and melodic. Is it only an aesthetic and nostalgic tribute, or is it the renewed energy of that period that can involve again a new generation of headbangers who need, mentioning your song “Face It”, to “feel strong and free”?

Thank you so much! Those guitar riffs that Jorge had allied to our passion for Old School Thrash Metal just gave us the motive to do what is now known. We weren’t expecting all the recognition for our music. And, something great that happened and that we’re overwhelmed by, is the fact that we gain a lot of fans from all over the world. It has been incredible and surreal, all the good compliments that we’re receiving. In the first place, we just have to believe in ourselves and do what goes on our soul. Of course that we don’t please everyone and, in life, it’s just like that. For those that sympathize with our work, our music, we just do it for them because being in a band is not only about us. It’s all about the fans. We just want them to have a great time listening to our stuff. So, if we could bring some fresh air to the Old School Thrash Metal scene, that would be freakin’ awesome!

In your EP “Mind Consumption”, there is great musical technique, which describes an high level of experience. Nothing happens by chance, but I read that you met for fun. Can you tell us the facts?

I and Jorge just met online and until now, we didn’t yet meet personally. For curiosity, I live in São Miguel, one of the nine islands that form the archipelago of the Azores and its Portuguese territory, and Jorge lives in Almada, a city in the south side coast, near Lisbon. It’s 1427 Km of distance between us but using all available technology, it seems that those Km don’t affect us. As you can see, it is possible to do something despite the distance and we just took a chance in doing something that we like. By the way, Paulo is from Seixal and it’s very close to Almada.

A peculiarity of certain kind of thrash metal is speaking about politics, social and environmental problem, criticizing also the dark side of power. An example of this is “Handle with Care” by Nuclear Assault. Going back to “Mind Consumption”, are there some of these themes? And what’s your narrative or what is the story contained in your work?

That kind of message is related with the artwork of "Mind Consumption".

Timpani Allo Spiedohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00541897449082209741noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6750020513338604737.post-68792688169403567072021-03-12T18:08:00.004+01:002021-03-12T18:16:51.043+01:00Sarcastic Burn Victim - "Blood & Stomach Pills" (Cruel Nature Records, 2021)

Band: Sarcastic Burn Victim

Title: Blood & Stomach Pills

Genre: Jazzcore

Release date: 29th January 2021

Time: 26.21 min

Vote: 90/100

Reviewer: Francesco Bazzurri

Hi, extreme metal rogues! From that time, very much is changed in the world but also in this band of 4 maniacs, that, during that period, in 2014, was a half-female quartet while now it is an all-male trio, leaded, as always, by the vocalist DeathLörd Astwülf, accompanied since 2010 by the guitarist Borys Crossburn, a guy involved in other some bands like Barbarian and even owner of labels such as Agipunk. Instead, the new entry is the drummer Dee Dee Altar, that isn't a freshman because of his militancy, for example, in notable acts like Bunker 66. With this line-up including a Borys Crossburn also in the role of bassplayer, Children of Technology have spewed recently forth, through the infamous Hells Headbangers Records, a new album: "Written Destiny".

Now, the formation is different from the previous years but nothing is changed in the basic sound of Children of Technology. In fact, we are talking about 8 tracks devoted to a roaring speed metalpunk with post-apocalyptic themes, in an approach not so far from similar bands like Overcharge. So, here the speed reigns over all, even though, sometimes, there are quieter and atmospheric moments, as in the ballad-like intro of "Desert City". There is also need to say that every song is an anthem, as taught by the '80s, and each of them is sung with big energy by a DeathLörd Astwülf in great shape. He offers a nice vocal variety since he ranges from hysterical falsettos to raucous grunts à la Lemmy, and without forgetting to spew forth some "ignorant" growls. In addition, in "The Days of Future Past" there are even evocative vocals that are very close to the same Barbarian.

Is there need to add something else? Well, Children of Technology, with this album, remain a strong point of reference for those who eat bread and metalpunk every day. Plus, I think that "Written Destiny" is better than "Future Decay", not entirely convincing because of a production a bit too clean for my tastes. Said also about a wonderful cover artwork courtesy of the Italian artist Velio Josto (we already knew him on these pages through Aggressive Perfector), "Written Destiny" is full of songs perfect to be performed on a stage so to provoke a notable moshpit... hoping that this fuckin' Covid will finally die very soon!

Tracklist:

1 - Soundtrack of No Future

2 - Creation Through Destruction

3 - Written Destiny

4 - The New Barbarians

5 - Desert City

6 - Warpainted Nightcreatures

7 - The Days of Future Past

8 - Wasteland Cratediggers

Line-up:

DeathLörd Astwülf - vocals

Borys Crossburn - guitars/bass

Dee Dee Altar - drums

FaceBook: https://www.facebook.com/COTofficial

BandCamp: https://children-of-technology.bandcamp.com/album/written-destiny

Hells Headbangers Records: https://shop-hellsheadbangers.com/

Timpani Allo Spiedohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00541897449082209741noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6750020513338604737.post-84752207431337871992021-03-06T00:17:00.001+01:002021-03-06T00:17:13.800+01:00Malichor - "Sirens of Innsmouth" (Self-released, 2020)

Band: Malichor

Title: Sirens of Innsmouth

Genre: Black/Thrash Metal

Time: 7.01 min

Release date: 17th October 2020

Vote: 75/100

After something like 3 years, the Australian quintet Malichor comes back on these pages with a 2-track single entitled "Sirens of Innsmouth". Released only in a digital format through BandCamp, it is a sort of concept-single "telling the tale of the fiendish inhabitants from the bordello "Sirens" in the derelict town of Innsmouth", that are the seducing but deadly creatures mentioned in the title.

Musically, this production doesn't show any particular variations in the very traditional sound offered by Malichor. In fact, both the songs are in the sign of a hyperspeed and well played black/thrash metal, also if, to say the entire truth, the riffing is thrasher than black. Of the tracks, "Sirens of Innsmouth" usually goes at a more typical pace for the thrash metal standards. Instead, "Lorelei" (named after the Siren Queen) is, at the same time, more dynamic and more violent due to a stronger presence of the blast-beats. Very good are the guitar solos, featured in both the songs.

As a conclusion for this fast'n'furious review, I say that "Sirens of Innsmouth" delivers remarkable doses of intensity, as usual for this band. Only shame for the fact that it is simply a 2-track release, so I can't wait for a more consistent production by these 5 demons. Meanwhile, I suggest you not only to listen to this single but also to enjoy the animated video that the band made for "Sentinels", a track taken from their debut album "Nightmares and Abominations", that I featured in "Come on, burn my ears! #13".

Tracklist:

1 - Sirens of Innsmouth

2 - Lorelei

Line-up:

D.
