Here comes the band that exactly one year ago I claimed to be "one of the sickest death metal bands that I ever listened in these times". So, I'm presenting you "Anthropophagy" by Sadistic Drive!

I let you know already that these Finnish "depraved death metal bastards", as they dub themselves, spewed forth a notable debut album. In fact, it's a 10-track work full of a very repugnant, raw and filthy death metal perfect for everyone into sonic atrocities à la Autopsy, Impetigo, Repulsion and the likes. But now the approach is more violent with a lot of blast-beats but offering, at the same time, various rhythmic changes so to include also doom passages and groovy mid-tempos (these last ones are exemplified at their best in "Run Over and Left to Die"). And, obviously, the punk influences remain strong, as you can hear, for example, in a song like "Disease-Ridden Pervert", where there are clear crust punk/d-beat tunes.

For me, the album gives its best things in its second part. In particular, the last four songs are amazing: the aforementioned "Disease-Ridden Pervert", "Ferox (Victim of Anthropophagous Tribe)" (surely my favourite episode because of outstanding riffs and a remarkable violence... and don't forget also lyrics inspired, I imagine, by the Italian brutal horror cult movie "Cannibal Ferox"), the short "Lust for Scum" (a mid-tempo that ends in a fast and wild way) and, especially, "Body Part Puzzle" that, taken from the demo days, closes the album in the most demented manner because of an incredibly lunatic singer. Curiously, three out of these songs (except for "Lust for Scum") are the only ones to have the guitar solos, played in a so adorably chaotic way, so I suggest to the band to play more of them.
At the end, I think that Sadistic Drive released an album that, even though not every track is effective (i.e. "Worm-Eaten Abomination" doesn't impress me so much), is totally worthy to be into the collection of the old-school death metal fanatics out there. This because "Anthropophagy", that has been released on tape by Headsplit Rec and on CD by La Caverna Rec, isn't only a lot violent like never before in the history of the band but also very sick, crazy and repulsive as it should be for this kind of acts. So, what are you waiting for? BUY THIS ALBUM or YOU'LL BE EATEN BY THE CANNIBALS!
