Necrogore - "Ectoplasmic Rape Phenomena" (Awakening Records, 2026)

Facciamo un sondaggio: voi preferite il classico death metal svedese, cioè, per intenderci, quello di Stoccolma, o il death metal statunitense? Entrambi sono molto diversi, visto che, di base, il primo è molto sguaiato e punkettone mentre l'altro è più tecnico e violento. E proprio per la sua indole più punk e selvaggia, e quindi per me più pogabile, io preferisco, per l'appunto, il death svedese, anche per via dell'ignorantissimo suono di chitarra a motosega che caratterizza questo stile fin da quando il chitarrista dei Nihilist, poi Entombed, Leif Cuzner armeggiò con il suo pedale Boss HM-2 fino a trovare delle sonorità molto distintive che avrebbero fatto storia. Come avrebbe fatto storia anche il lavoro imprescindibile di Tomas Skogsberg, il produttore per antonomasia che sta dietro a tanti capolavori del death metal svedese, che ha un sound così peculiare anche grazie a lui. Ma tale attitudine punk di questo tipo di death metal è stata determinata dal fatto che molti suoi protagonisti avessero spesso un forte background punk. Per dire, il compianto Tomas Lindberg, venuto purtroppo a mancare l'anno scorso, è stata la voce storica non solo dei Grotesque, non solo degli At the Gates, ma anche dei Disfear, eroi mai tanto lodati del crust punk nei quali suona da decenni anche Uffe Cederlund degli Entombed. Poi, i Morbid, come molte band pionieristiche del genere, agli inizi riuscivano a essere capiti più dai punk che dai metallari, esibendosi quindi in centri sociali come l'Ultrahuset, famoso spazio occupato di Stoccolma attivo fra il 1980 e il 1988. Per fortuna, quest'accoppiata death metal svedese/punk continua tuttora grazie a gruppi come gli oggi recensiti Necrogore, terzetto marchigiano formato, fra gli altri, da Chris, il loro batterista, noto per la sua passata militanza in band crust come i Genocidio Chimico o in altre più sul death/grind come i Bloodraised (nati però come gruppo crust, tanto da aver diviso uno split perfino con i grandi Disforia) o gli SpermBloodShit. Nei Bloodraised anche il cantante/bassista dei Necrogore, Lucas, anni fa pure nei black metallazzi Acheronte. Inutile dire che tante di queste influenze le si sentono nell'album di debutto dei Necrogore, "Ectoplasmic Rape Phenomena", uscito il 20 marzo 2026 in CD per conto dell'Awakening Records, etichetta cinese che ho imparato a conoscere un anno fa grazie ai brasiliani Evilcult. E lasciatemi dire che 'sti cinesi rilasciano spesso dei dischi veramente favolosi. Compreso, naturalmente, questo.

Symphobia - "Hideously Traumatic" (Comatose Music, 2025)

In Indonesia si picchia. E pure forte. Il che, in realtà, non è esattamente una novità da queste latitudini. Infatti già su Timpani allo Spiedo #3 vi ho parlato dei promettenti Bottled Violent, giovani esponenti di una fervente scena accacì nazionale, ma il fatto è che ultimamente ho scoperto che gli indonesiani, oltre ad avere un divertente campionato di basket (però credo che di questo non ve ne freghi una mazza!), hanno anche una scena brutal death metal a dir poco mostruosa, piena com'è di gruppi uno più figo dell'altro. Non a caso, a supportarla in modo costante ci sta pensando la Comatose Music, nota etichetta statunitense di lungo corso specializzata praticamente solo nel brutal. E proprio quest'anno sta inanellando una devastante serie di album made in Indonesia realizzata da band quali Devastrosity, Anthropophagus Depravity e i qui recensiti Symphobia. Ecco a voi quindi il disco d'esordio di questi ultimi, "Hideously Traumatic", che è già bello traumatico fin dalla splatterissima copertina, curata da tal Timbul Cahyono, un prolifico artista anch'esso indonesiano piuttosto rinomato a livello internazionale, a giudicare dalle sue collaborazioni con gente del calibro di Malevolent Creation, Monstrosity e Terrorizer. Mica cazzi!

welcome to a new episode of "Honorable Mentions from the Abyss", that this time is particularly rich because it contains even 8 different bands, with some of them that I received from the British press agency Imperative PR and another one from the Italian Anubi Press. It was since April of this year that I didn't publish a so long episode!

Between the aforementioned 8 bands, there is a connection: in some ways, they show an hardcore punk attitude, so to range from classic hc tunes to the grindcore massacre, to crust punk but without forgetting a bit of thrash metal mania.

It's a looong time that there isn't a Chilean band on these pages, even though you surely know how much I love the Chilean extreme metal. Fortunately, today Chile comes back with a band that amazed me so lot with their second album "Anticosmocrator" (Hells Headbangers, 2015) that I bought it in its CD format during an Italian gig of Impiety happened two years ago. Well, after that album, Perversor spewed forth a split called "Perverso Dios Chivo" along with their compatriots Istengoat and, a year after, the long-held third album, "Umbravorous", that totally confirms all the good done three years before. And they did it with the same quartet, that now is stable even since 2009, a very remarkable thing in an underground metal world where the members of many bands go in and out of them.

Today I'll tell you about the 4th album of a band that started their demented career in 2004 in Huntington, New York. To say the truth, their album, "Ulcer Island", was released in 2017, but, as you know, it's never too late to discover very good productions like this one!

Lectern, Sudden Death, Whiskey & Funeral, Dr. Gore, Verano's Dogs...insomma, parecchi gruppi death metal di Roma e dintorni hanno quest'anno pubblicato degli album ma, fra di essi, ne mancava almeno uno: i Corpsefucking Art. Questi sono un nome storico della scena death metal della mia città visto che sono nati nell'ormai lontanissimo 1993 con il moniker di Enthralment. Da quel momento, hanno intrapreso una fruttuosa carriera musicale durante la quale hanno potuto suonare di supporto a gente come Cannibal Corpse e Immolation, fare il loro primo tour negli USA nel 2014, e partecipare a importanti festival internazionali. E quest'anno è arrivato il loro quinto album, "Splatterphobia", che, come di consueto, vede in copertina la simpaticissima mascotte dei Corpsefucking Art, Mr. Daisy, stavolta intento a maciullare per benino una delle sue tante vittime, fra l'altro indossando una maglia dei Mortician. Fra queste vittime si vede anche la testa del chitarrista Andrea "Corpse" Cipolla, co-fondatore del gruppo nonché boss della Despise the Sun Records e pure membro degli autopsiani Morbo, recensiti ormai ben due anni fa. Adesso però pochi cazzi e vediamo cosa hanno tirato fuori 'sti cinque pazzi!

Fuck, the promotion agency Imperative PR is sending me a lot of albums for years, and only today I decided to review one of them! Precisely, I chose to review the debut album of a band from Lisbon, Portugal, whose story is a true anthem to the perseverance. In fact, Cronaxia was founded even in 1997 but, in eternal search for the right members to play their insane music and struggling with many line-up changes, they seriously started to write a full-lenght album only in 2010 after publishing an EP three years before. Despite this will to give life to this album, Cronaxia started to record it only in 2015 with a line-up that consist of three stable members (comprising the co-founder and guitarist Filipe) and two session musicians as well (that are the hyper-active drummer Rolando Barros, and the bassist Alexandre Ribeiro, both from the historical death/grind band Grog). And finally, that album became reality under the title of "Collapsing the Outer Structure", that has been released by the Portuguese label Lusitanian Music.
