Honorable Mentions from the Abyss #30: Intoxicated/Puro Odio/Barbaric Horde

Hey brutal bangers,
"Honorable Mentions from the Abyss", the column dedicated to talk about some stuff in a fast'n'furious way, is back with its 30th episode!
This time some very brutal and also sick stuff awaits you so to range from bestial black/death metal to a blackened crust punk chanting the collapse of this world, so you have been warned!
And now let's know the bands without uselessly extending this introduction!

INTOXICATED - "WALLED"

It seems that a certain Evil Chuck Schuldiner produced "Drain", an EP of an infamous Floridian thrash metal band called Intoxicated (FB page). Well, after 23 years from their self-released debut album "Metal Neck", Intoxicated are back with a new EP, "Walled" (Seeing Red Records, 2020). Expect to be bombarded by a 6-track opus in which there is a totally old-school, wild and aggressive death/thrash metal rooted in the lesson of Floridian bands such as the early Death. Strong of guests like Kenny Andrews (Obituary) and Brett Walker (that mixed the EP), "Walled" is intense in the right way and even a bit unpredictable (like in the abrupt slowdown of "Smash the Line"), so it can satisfy the death/thrash metal fanatics in different ways.

PURO ODIO - "PURO ODIO"

In a way or another, Sentient Ruin Laboratories surprises always the listeners thanks to its unconventional and completely sick releases. The self-titled debut EP of Puro Odio, originally released in 2019 on vinyl by the same band and recently edited on cassette by the the same Sentient Ruin Lab, isn't an exception to this. In fact, Puro Odio, throughout the EP, show a sort of crust punk full of palpable hate also because it's played not only with a lot of feedback but also through dark tunes very close to the first wave of black metal in a Hellhammer vein ("Pesadilla"), so to remind me a bit of bands like Systemik Viølence. Pity that it contains only 2 tracks per 5 minutes but the potentialities of this Spanish duo are so promising that it's very easy to overcome the scarce time of the EP!

BARBARIC HORDE - "AXE OF SUPERIOR SAVAGERY"

Fuck, it's a lot of time that I don't talk about stuff released by Godz ov War Productions! So, it's time to cover this gap by talking you about "Axe of Superior Savagery", that it released this year with the company of Rex Diaboli. This is the long-held debut album of two Portuguese terrorists that I follow with great interest since their early days when they debuted in 2016 with a very primitive demo entitled "Gasmask Perpetrators" (War Arts Productions). With "Axe of Superior Savagery", Barbaric Horde cement their reputation of bestial black/death metal smugglers playing along the lines of Bestial Warlust, Black Witchery, Blasphemy (listen for example to "Venomous of Infernal Carnage", that in some parts is very similar, indeed, to the Blasphemy's "Ritual"!) and the likes. Ok, I listened many times to stuff of this kind since, you know, I adore the bestial black/death metal but Barbaric Horde play it with incredible conviction. Cruelty, apocalyptic tunes, demented screams, ultra-fast and militaristic drums, cavernous guitars... FUCK, I can't ignore this adorable holocaust!
