Holycide, Trallery, Injector, Exodia (even though these last ones don't exist anymore), Crisix...the Spanish thrash metal scene, in these last years, has became a factory of notable bands! Among the others, this prolific factory produced also an act that was founded in 2009 as a cover band: Inferno. There is to admit that this moniker is too abused, and it isn't a case if you can find another band named Inferno on these pages. Despite this, these Inferno from Ceuta, Spain, deserves a good consideration from the thrash metal maniacs, and their second album "Basado en hechos reales" ("based on real facts") is a powerful demonstration of this. But before speaking about the music, I must say that the album, released by the Spanish label Necromance Records, is well presented by an outstanding cover artwork by the Indonesian Five Miligram, that, if you remember, made also the artwork of the barbaric "Ain't War Hell?" of the Italians thrashers Cruentator. So, the quality is surely granted also this time!

Said this, "Basado en hechos reales" see an aggressive thrash metal mainly characterized by raucous vocals shouting socio-political lyrics in Spanish, and blast-beat parts that are more frequent than the usual for a thrash metal band. In addition, there are some melodic passages, that are especially present during the guitar solos (i.e. "Espiral de mentiras"), and slight hardcore punk influences, as you'll see soon more specifically.

For me, this thrash metal style, that is old-school but with some modern elements (so, it is very different from the purely '80s and wildest approach of bands like Toxik Attack), is expressed better into the second part of the album, where you can find the favorite songs of mine. In particular, they are "Espiral de mentiras" (that has not only an amazing guitar solo a bit melodic but also some dark tunes and a gloomy, acoustic end), "Sin domesticar" (memorable is its mega-violent restart with a chaotic guitar solo after a short break!), and, above all, the intimidating "Noches sin tregua" (which is the most punkish number and contains even some very engaging groovy passages).
Instead, the first part of the album is less effective, being more predictable and having no special surprises. In addition, there is need also to say that the mid-tempo drums aren't Always convincing since they can be a little bit static and not so much powerful. Fortunately, the (ultra)-fast parts are the best ones, as it should be for every thrash metal band worthy of this name!

Okay, I think I said (almost) everything about "Basado en hechos reales". Sure, it isn't a masterpiece and it could be better but, anyway, it shows a violent thrash metal that, very similar to the one played by bands such as Whorehouse, is full of a palpable rage. This happens especially in a scrapping song like "Noches sin tregua", in which there are hardcore punk influences that I suggest to develop better in the future productions to come. And now I am curious to watch the upcoming first official video on which Inferno worked one month ago circa. Meanwhile, enjoy the lyric video made for "Apriétate el bozal", that you can watch below.
