Gli E.G.O.C.I.D.E. sono uno di quei gruppi da ammirare a prescindere! Dico questo perché hanno una bella attitudine, già solo per il fatto che, come qualsiasi gruppo HC che si rispetti, siano sempre in giro a far danni, e ultimamente hanno avuto pure l'onore di suonare con gente come i Raw Power, gli Svetlanas e gli In.si.dia, e in passato anche con altri tipi come i Node (cacchio, di loro conservo ancora una vecchissima intervista su un numero di Grind Zone del 2003!). Ma chi sono loro? Sono un quartetto di Brescia nato nel 2016 per volontà del cantante Alex con l'idea iniziale di proporre una via di mezzo fra gli Slayer e i Tragedy (un noto gruppo crust punk statunitense, per gli ignorantoni). Ben presto però, quest'idea è "fortunatamente" (per dirla con le parole del gruppo stesso) naufragata, ragion per cui i nostri hanno scelto altri riferimenti stilistici comunque sempre a mezza strada fra il metal e l'hardcore punk, come si vedrà. Così, gli E.G.O.C.I.D.E. si sono finora autopubblicati nel 2017 l'EP "What Price for Freedom?" e nel 2018 il qui recensito album di debutto dal titolo interminabile di "Chapter One: Cheap Existentialism and Other Rhetorical Bullshits No One Wants to Hear Anymore", di cui esiste solo la versione digitale a causa dei costi di produzione per farne una versione fisica.

ormai lo sanno anche i sassi, ma è sempre bene spammare il fatto che il 24 marzo 2019 sia uscito finalmente "Nel Segno del Marchio Nero", il mio ebook che racconta vita, morte e miracoli della "first wave of black metal", coprendo un lungo periodo che va dal 1981 al 1991, parlando sia di gruppi famosi come i Venom che di gruppi più sfigati come i tedeschi Poison e altri provenienti anche da Paesi insospettabili come la Malesia (gulp!). Chi non muore si rivede! Gli Autotheism sono un giovane quartetto nato nel 2016 che risulta composto da due ex-membri dei defunti Blessed Dead, gruppo in passato più volte ospitato su Timpani allo Spiedo. Bene, il loro nuovo progetto si chiama, appunto, Autotheism, e finora hanno rilasciato due dischi, cioè l'EP di 2 pezzi "Hives MMXVII" (2017), e lo spaventoso singolo "CLSTVM: Dogma Sculptured in the Flesh" (2018), qui recensito. Presto scoprirete perché ho usato l'aggettivo "spaventoso".

Very interesting debut album for these Prezir (Serbian for "contempt"), a quintet from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, consisting of musicians that plays also in many other bands. Among them, you'll find as a drummer Brian Serzynski, already known on these pages thanks to his militancy in Pig's Blood, reviewed some time ago. And you have also to consider that "As Rats Devour Lions", the Prezir's debut album, has been released by a label of the calibre of Godz ov War Productions. So, there are all the premises for an album to remember for the extreme metal fukken maniacs!

Nel Segno del Marchio Nero: un'anteprima inedita dell'ebook!

Come molti di voi ben sanno, il 24 marzo 2019 esce come ebook il mio primo libro. Intitolato "Nel Segno del Marchio Nero", il libro racconta la storia della cosiddetta "first wave of black metal", andando a toccare un lungo e intenso periodo che va dal 1981, cioè dalla pubblicazione del seminale "Welcome to Hell" dei Venom, al 1991, cioè quando Euronymous dei Mayhem aprì il negozio "Helvete", con il quale finì la prima fase del black metal dando così inizio alla sua seconda, e più nota, fase.
Ebbene, considerando che ormai siamo vicinissimi alla data di uscita di questo saggio, oggi ho pensato bene di regalarvi in esclusiva una piccola parte ancora inedita del libro che non trovate nell'anteprima resa disponibile da Google Books. Quindi, eccovi uno stralcio della bella intervista telefonica che feci nient'altro che a Peso dei Necrodeath ormai ben tre anni fa circa.

Art Gates Records returns today on these putrid pages with this Finnish quartet called Whitemour! I think that "tormented" is the right adjective to describe Whitemour, whose story started in 2006 as a black metal band but they had so many troubles as well so many singers (even 3 in only 6 years!) that they broke up in 2012, managing to release only a demo, a single and two EPs. But, you know, the metalheads are really persistent people, so Jani Rohunen, an original founder of them and also guitarist (but he don't plays anymore in the band), thought well to give new life to Whitemour in 2014. And it seem that this persistence brought to good fruits since Whitemour, after many years of hard work, released their long-held debut album "The Devil Inherits the World" through the excellent Spanish label Art Gates Records. But Whitemour, mind you, aren't a black metal band anymore, even though...

Honorable Mentions from the Abyss #1: Hexecutor/Mortal Scepter

With this new article, I started a column called "Honorable Mentions from the Abyss". This column is a sort of evolution of "Reviews' Attacks" because also here I'll talk you briefly about various bands in a single article. But, contrarily to the "Reviews' Attacks", the "Honorable Mentions from the Abyss" aren't reviews but a sort of fast introductions of bands that are worthy to be cited on these putrid pages. The fact is that every day I have new review requests but not always I have the time to review EVERY album/demo/EP/whatever it is that I receive, so I preferred to present them to you by listening only to two or little more songs. Anyway, you'll can find these honorable mentions not only in the "Special Articles" section but also, for a matter of completeness, in the "Reviews" section. Is all clear?

"Me so menato de più in 'sto concerto che in un incontro de kickboxing!". Parole di un mio amico dopo che ci siamo massacrati in totale allegria durante la serata HC punk mezza straight-edge del 23 febbraio, tenutasi al 360 per festeggiare l'uscita di "Sink or Swim" (Indelirium Records), il nuovo album degli headliner Short Fuse. Ma non poteva che essere un massacro visto che a organizzare la serata ci ha pensato il collettivo Till Death, i cui concerti attirano sempre tanta gente e sono sempre puramente hardcore punk, ragion per cui aspettatevi SEMPRE (e 3!) un moshing a dir poco delirante! Quindi, abbiamo pogato, slammato (avete mai visto un metallaro che slamma? ECCOMI!), fatto stage diving (io 3 volte), aiutato alcuni pazzi a saltare dal palco e a surfare, aiutato altri a rialzarsi mentre altri ancora ci hanno raccolto (io sono caduto 2 volte e puntualmente in maniera fantozziana!) e, dopo tutto ciò, siamo usciti sì con le ossa rotte e con tanti lividi ma felicissimi. Cacchio, non pogavo in modo così serio dal concerto degli Slander tenutosi il 21 dicembre sempre al 360! Ma, a parte gli Short Fuse, chi c'era in scaletta? Adesso ci arriviamo!

Inferno - "Basado en hechos reales" (Necromance Records, 2019)

Holycide, Trallery, Injector, Exodia (even though these last ones don't exist anymore), Crisix...the Spanish thrash metal scene, in these last years, has became a factory of notable bands! Among the others, this prolific factory produced also an act that was founded in 2009 as a cover band: Inferno. There is to admit that this moniker is too abused, and it isn't a case if you can find another band named Inferno on these pages. Despite this, these Inferno from Ceuta, Spain, deserves a good consideration from the thrash metal maniacs, and their second album "Basado en hechos reales" ("based on real facts") is a powerful demonstration of this. But before speaking about the music, I must say that the album, released by the Spanish label Necromance Records, is well presented by an outstanding cover artwork by the Indonesian Five Miligram, that, if you remember, made also the artwork of the barbaric "Ain't War Hell?" of the Italians thrashers Cruentator. So, the quality is surely granted also this time!

It's never too late! In fact, Juanjo Pérez aka Kasky Svart (ex-Human Carnage), in July 2018, contacted me after reading my review about his friends in Moribundo. He proposed me to review the debut album of his new band called The Last Oblation and, obviously and considering their genre, I said yes without any hesitations. So, here is the review about the self-produced "Ante Ruinam", that the band, founded as a one-man project in 2016, released in the shape of a duo comprising also the singer Dani Torres aka Dani Kraken.
